      1. i have the best quote of all time. No idea who said it but it was to cool to not put on hear. heaven help the roses when the bombs begin to fall

      1. I think the quote goes something like this (I didn’t look it up, so I might be wrong)

“To the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.” -Albus Dumbledore.

I actually want this on my tombstone when I die, so I hope I am getting it right, lol

      1. Wakeel: You asked for quotes from two people. If you go to Google, just type one of the names in and add the word quotes. Like: Bill Gates Quotes and you should get them.

  1. my life motto:
“In my life’s chain of events, nothing was accidental. Everything happened according to an inner need.”

    Hannah Senesh

  2. One of my favorites was the one told me by a wee elderly Kerryman at the Brandon hotel bar as he cadged drinks. ” A man convinced against his will , is of the same opinion still “.

          1. Are you serious? This means that people are too afraid to make light of god’s plan when it should just be laughed off in stead of making someone fearful. You are dumb.

        1. STEVE: “WHO” CAN’T SPEAK ENGLISH.”
“THAT” IS HOW ONE SPEAKS ENGLISH.
          (“GUYS’ ARE NOT ”THATS”)

THERE ARE SOME ENGLISH RULES OF THE PAST WHICH HAVE BEEN CHANGED, LIKE THE WAY WE LEARN “NEVER USE AIN’T.” THAT AIN’T TRUE ANYMORE. AND THE LAST SENTENCE I WROTE IS STILL WRONG. YOU ONLY MAY USE “AIN’T” IN PLACE OF “AM NOT.”

SO…”I AIN’T LEARNED NO ENGLISH” MEANS “I AM NOT LEARNED NO ENGLISH.” AND THAT SENTENCE MEANS THAT “IF i AINT LEARNED NO ENGLISH, THEN I MUST HAVE LEARNED SOME ENGLISH. (AM NOT AND NO CONTAINED TWO NEGATIVES. AND THAT IS A NO-NO. AND A “NO” TO A “NO” IS A YES! LOL!

SO IF I WERE TO TELL YOU THAT “I AIN’T NO ENGLISH TEACHER,” THAT WOULD MEAN THAT “I AM NOT NO ENGLISH TEACHER” AND THAT WOULD MEAN THAT I AM AN ENGLISH TEACHER. AND THAT SENTENCE LAST IS CORRECT.

BUT REAL TEACHERS TEACH STUDENTS HOW TO LEARN TO TEACH THEMSELVES ANYTHING. THOMAS EDISON ALREADY KNEW HOW TO LEARN, BUT NOT TO TEACH.

BECAUSE HE KNEW THAT IF HE TRIED OVER AND OVER AGAIN, EVENTUALLY HE WOULD FIND, THE RIGHT FILAMENT FOR THE ELECTRIC LIGHT BULB, AN ITEM WHAT THE CREATOR HAD ALREADY CREATED HERE FOR ANYONE TO FIND. IT TOOK HIM 8000 TRIES.

WE ARE NOW ON MARS BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE ON THIS EARTH BELIEVED THAT THEY COULD DO IT THE SAME WAY. “SEEK AND YE SHALL FIND” IS REALLY “THE WAY.”

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE HAD MY TEACHERS IN 12 ELEMENTARY, 4 HIGH SCHOOL 4 COLLEGE AND 3 GRADUATE SEMINARY YEARS AND MOST SUNDAYS IN CHURCH HAD CONVINCED ME THIS WAS TRUE. AND ALL OF THEM, LIKE ME AS A TEACHER AND PASTOR FOR 40 YEARS, HAD VERY GOOD INTENTIONS TO DO THE BEST WE KNEW TO TEACH WHAT WE WERE TAUGHT. BUT “SEEK AND YE SHALL FIND” WAS NOT PARTICULARLY. ONE OF THEM. WE WERE TAUGHT MOSTLY TO LOOK IN BOOKS FOR ANSWERS TO TEST QUESTIONS.

SO, BRING UP A CHILD IN THE WAY HE SHOULD GO” HAS BEEN THE PRACTICE OF TRADITION-ORIENTED ATTEMPTS TO TEACH SUBJECTS…NOT STUDENTS.

          1. As a writer I deal with the grammar police a lot. It always amazes me when those who criticize others struggle with the same problems. As much as I usually don’t like getting into these grammatical back-and-forths, good catch on that one Marvin.

      1. #1: You used “most stupid.” That’s not grammatically correct.
#2: You aren’t being open minded to others opinions.
#3: Edgar Allen Poe for example, nearly all the people he loved in his life all died from TB, but he didn’t die. He lived through all of the pain of seeing all of them pass away right before his eyes. Why did that happen to him then? If he happened to see this comment during his lifetime he probably would’ve gotten a big laugh out of it. That’s because the funniest of jokes have truth to them. I hope you think about this for a minute before you respond, if you do respond.

        1. Hey Ben,you know, even though Poe had awful luck in his personal life,he had a childlike, whimsical side.He was responsible for some of the best hoaxes and April fools pranks of his time.Shows a huge amount of resilience.

          1. That’s interesting. Do you have some specific examples of the pranks he used to pull? As a fan of Poe, I never would have guessed he was the type. Very cool. 🙂

      2. God is a big boy, if he is what he claims to be he can handle a little joke at his expense since he created humor, and if he is not what he claims to be we do not have to worry about it in the first place…

        1. Andrew: I agree with you. And I am not aware of very many people who choose to do that. If they did, they would be more comfortable with their belief in an unconditional loving God, rather than one who plays policeman with his children and throws them in a prison of eternal fire when their rap sheet gets long enough.

        1. “God is not real. Only those who believe in him are those who are scared that their excistance does not mean anything after their death, and that they, amoung all other things, do not matter.”
          Jason Cupp II

just made this quote, so quote me on it.

    1. Oh dear me, all the quote means is that God makes things work out in a way that shows He likely have a very odd sense of humor, and people on Earth take things way too seriously, because this isn’t the part that really matters. We need to let go and go with whats thrown at us. No isults to God. Nothing bad was said. And even if it was, why are you fighting? The guy that said it is dead, people.

      1. “Don’t sweat the small stuff, and remember… Its all small stuff.” — I enjoyed your response, Samantha… It’s always a matter of time before someone lists a quote about “God” and sets off the fireworks. I’m sure if I scroll further down, there will be a quote about politics and another 80-post long stream of back and forth arguing.

People need to take life less seriously, and enjoy the moments they can enjoy.

The author of The Supreme Philosophy of Man: The Laws of Life, Alfred A. Montapert said, “Expect problems, and eat them for breakfast.” The God that everyone is so afraid of introduces problems into the daily life of people who believe in Him in order to help them avoid stagnation…

A stagnant life is one that is wasted! Accept change, flow with change. It is “God’s” idea of humor to do something you do not expect… The greatest pranks of all time are both miracles and disasters set forth by the deity of Christianity… “I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are nothing like your Christ,” said Ghandi…

Smile. Laugh. Live. Love. Die. If you can’t laugh when life throws you a curve ball… Does anyone get the quote yet…? Okay then… Hope you do…

My favorite quotes of all time:

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” — Thomas A. Edison

“If the elevator of success is out, use the stairs, one step at a time.” — John Reyes (2010 Philipines Presidential Candidate)

“I have just three things to teach: simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures.” — Lao Tzu (Ancient Taoism Philosopher)

      1. “I am me”, Thats not a quote everyone knows this.
        You are you.
        We are we. 🙂
A quote is a wise (simple) saying that makes someone think of the truth twice.
I hate that people just say some things that make no sense at all and call it a quote because they just want to say something , then people just start thinking over nothing but a couple of empty words.

  3. In the age section, you said that Mark Twain said “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” Actually Leroy ‘Satchel’ Paige said that first like a decade earlier

    1. The exact version included here is attributed to Mark Twain. It appears Paige has a very similar quote however — “function” as opposed to “issue.” So we’ll just have to consider that an addition to the list here in comments, as the exact version included appears to have been cited correctly.

    2. Satchel Paige was 4 years old when Mark Twain died, so he probably didn’t say a whole lot a decade before Twain did.

    3. For someone so adamant that they got it wrong, you might want to check out your source because unless Mr Paige was coming up with quotes concerning age, before he was born, he certainly didn’t say it a decade before Mark Twain.
      Mark Twain died in 1910
Leroy “Satchel” Paige was born in 1906

    4. Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) born November 30, 1835 died April 21, 1910
Satchel Paige born July 7, 1906 died June 8, 1982

Not quite sure how Satchel could have said it like a decade earlier since he was born only 4 years before Mark Twain died.. Just sayin.

  4. “Having a positive attitude may not get you what you want, but it will annoy enough people to be worth the effort”

“Tact is for people not witty enough to be sarcastic”

    1. I don’t who said that, but,it sounds a lot like Dorothy Parker.I really like her line”If you don’t have anything nice to say about people, come sit over here by me”

        1. Dear Madam,

Good day and how is life over there in country,my names are sammy naks and am from south Cameroon i ll love to know you better if you don’t mind so please do get back to me with asap of yours.

          Regards
          Sammy

    2. It´s kinda funny, how many wise and true things have been said and still the world is like this.
I don’t care who said this before me but I´ll say it again:
We talk too much and do too little!

  5. “we as humans cannot survive in a dark world. But, we can live dreaming of a brighter tomorrow”

(I totally just made that up) 🙂

    1. We as humans are more than we think we are, and dreaming is never the solution!
A dream is like a vision, that just shows us how the future could be if we change our ways or start going the right way.

    1. That was awesome !!!! “if you have searched forever, you’ve already missed it” this works so true especially on realtionshiop between man and woman….

  6. “If you don’t make mistakes, you’re not working on hard enough problems.”

    – Frank Wilczek

So true. I think people, in general, are way too afraid to make mistakes. The fact is, you’ll probably never succeed on your first try.

    1. so true. When I think of this I think of a kid tying their shoes or working on any other of life’s skills. You wouldn’t believe how many different ways and attempts are made and even when we model the correct way they still make many mistakes for a while before it finally happens. (I also picture how adorable the kids look so concentrated thinking that wrapping one side of the lace around the other 10 times is gonna work. I’m sure every kid does this at least a couple times in life!)

    1. “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” ~Dr. Suess

      1. I’ve heard that one slightly different — “Do as I say, not as I do.” Either way, it’s a good one. I can’t count how many times I had to hear it growing up. It’s surely a favorite of parents.

    1. Most priests aren’t as pure as the words they say either… Does that detract from the value of going to church..?

If you can hear a statement… even if its a quote from Manson… If something that someone says inspires you to a positive place… Then does the source REALLY matter at that point?

  7. I’m not able the original quote anywhere, so I used Google Translate from danish to english. I know it sucks, I really do. If anyone knows, or is able to find, the original quote, I would be ever grateful.
It’s a quote from Jurassic Park, the novel, and it’s being said by Ian Malcolm.
“Negative things clump together. Things are going to hell together. How is the real world”

  8. “Courage is rightly esteemed the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees all others.”

    – W.C.

  9. It’s amazing how influential a quote can be. Reading one of these quotes can be the inspiration needed to complete a task. I stumbled across another great list of famous quotes. Check them out and enjoy! Seize the day 🙂

  10. Some additions:

“The creative adult is the child who survived.” –Ursula LeGuin

“Life has taught us that love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking outward together in the same direction.” -Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

“If I love you, what business is it of yours?” -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Great quotes you had listed above!

  11. one of my favorite quotes about fear actually comes from the last Harry Potter book, written by J.K. Rowling, and is said by the character of Albus Dumbledore-“It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more.”

  12. “if you put a limit on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.” -Bruce Lee

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain” -Bob Marley

  13. “I try not to think with my gut. If i’m serious about understanding the world, thinking with anything besides my brain, as tempting as that might be, is likely to get me into trouble.”

    Carl Sagan

  14. “When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will know peace.”

“Everything will be ok in the end. If it’s not ok, it’s not the end.”

    1. Thnx Liana 🙂

Here are some more for yall.

“You give me presents with your presence alone” (Jack Johnson)

“I am nothing special; just a common man with common thoughts, and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who’s ever lived: I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul; and to me, this will always be enough.” (The Notebook)

“The things we do in this life are insignificant, but it’s very important that we do them…..because no one else will.” (Gandhi)

“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” (Albert Einstein)

“Do more for others than you would do for yourself.” (Book of Eli)

“Faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1)

“Baby don’t worry about a thing cause every little thing is gonna be alright.” (Bob Marley)

“Go Big or Go Home. If it’s worth doing it’s worth doing right.” (?)

Jenny: Do you ever dream, Forrest, about who you’re gonna be?
Forrest Gump: Who I’m gonna be?
      Jenny: Yeah.
Forrest Gump: Aren’t-aren’t I going to be me?

      1. Hey Desmond,
I was wondering about the quote”you may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one”.I always thought that was John Lennon,Could he have taken it from Jack Johnson?

    2. It is too the end….no it’s not….. YES IT IS…no it’s not……YES IT IS!!
Debating “the end” is pointless. So, henceforth debating the end shall be considered horrifyingly extraneous and best understood when compared to some really confusing mathematical theory or even to exponentially more mind boggling conundrums or mystical occurrences, unexplained, and best left alone for the well being of the human race. For example, we really may never know how many licks it takes to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Roll pop….So there, that’s what I think.
p.s. It’s not easy to explain the boundaries, but at certain times for me personally, whether perceived as unintended or not, sarcasm hits the spot for those of us who were fortunate enough to be born without an innate sense of tact.

  15. “Never explain yourself. Your friends don’t need it, and your enemies won’t believe it.”

“Don’t regret anything, because at some point in time, it was exactly what you wanted.”

“You can pretend to be serious, but you can’t pretend to be witty.”
    -Sacha Guitry

    1. Love the second quote. I told a friend once before that spent two and a half hours apologizing to me for stuff that happened… “An apology is only useful if you would have done something differently.. If not, don’t apologize, don’t regret. Learn from it and move on.”

  16. Strength means recognizing that it is impossible to be strong all the time.   – Sally Franser
“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be”

  17. My fave -“Coincidence is God’s way of staying invisible”

Also: “The key to a great relationship are the four C’s: Chemistry, Compatibility, Commitment, and Communication”.

    1. “The key to a successful relationship are the three C’s: Commitment, Compromise, and Communication” – I’ve said this for years.

Chemistry and compatibility describe the word relationship not what keeps it great or successful.

  18. “You don’t try to build a wall, you don’t set out to build a wall, you don’t say I’m going to build the biggest wall. You don’t start there…You say I’m going to lay this brick as perfectly as a brick can be laid and you do that every single day and soon you will have a wall.”

“Being REALISTIC is the most common road to mediocrity, why would you be realistic? What’s the point? Its just puts up a barrier.”

“Represent the IDEA that you can really make what you want.”

–All of these quotes are from Will Smith.

  19. need to put the quote by winston churchil, If youre not a liberal at 20 you have no heart; if youre not a conservative at 40 you have no brain

  20. Here’s one from Albert Einstein:

“Two things are infinite in this world: The Universe, and human stupidity. And i’m not so sure about the universe.”

  21. Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. -Douglas Adams

  22. “Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man’s sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true.”- Martin Luther King Jr.

  23. After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him. The moral: When you’re full of bull, keep your mouth shut.

Music should strike fire from the hearts of men, and bring tears from the eyes of women- Ludwig Van Beetoven

  25. There are four questions of value in life… What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same. Only love
    -Johnny Depp

Anything that is too stupid to be spoken is sung.
    –Voltaire

Nothing travels faster than the speed of light with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws.
Douglas Adams, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”

  26. “The heartbeat of a football team is the quarterback, and I think anyone who has any intellegene about the game know that you must have consistency and that position to be a championship team” -Ron Jaworski

          1. jury pogoso:: You are correct. The end of the world begins when we are able to say what Jesus said: “Behold, I have overcome the world.” It is when a person becomes self-reliant, loses his tradition-oriented and others-directed life style and becomes who he or she is created to be, a person who seeks and finds ways to progress from where someone else left off and improves life from what it was before but cannot finished it to what it could become later. Everything, through the free will of mankind may improve generationally. It is the progressive revelation of God, given to mankind who may choose to follow The Scientific Method to “seek and find” what is beyond what has already been learned to make the Universe a better place for the next generations. Meanwhile, We reap what the previous generations have sown. It is a reciprocal arrangement! And that is just awesome!

  27. Failure is not the worth thing to happen the absolute worst is to not try.

If success builds character then Failure reviles it.

Its not what has happened to one but how one reacts to it.

Every man dies however not all live.

    All done said by someone

  28. My comment:- “we often say that ‘money’ is not everything but the fact is that there is nothing without ‘money’.”

    1. Money does not buy you happiness nor does it buy wisdom. The only reason that we choose to place value on money is because we have not found something more valued yet. If it wasn’t paper that grows on trees then it could have been shells on the beach; after a while even that would become rare.

  29. “To suppose, as we all suppose, that we could be rich and not behave as the rich behave, is like supposing that we could drink all day and stay sober.” — Logan Pearsall Smith

  30. Thanks for the additions to the list folks. Of the quotes left in comments so far I like the Lincoln quote Travis mentioned and the Letterman quote about luck, posted by Tsal. Thanks! It’s always interesting to see which quotes stick with people. 🙂

  31. “Identify what’s important – eliminate everything else”. Don’t know who it came from but it’s been my rule for everything in life.

“You can never underestimate the stupidity of the general public.” – Scott Adams

  35. “The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.” Albert Einstein

  36. “I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation. War is hell.”
    ~William Tecumseh Sherman

  37. “We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately” was made at the signing of the Declaration of Independence on August 2nd 1776.

  38. “Anything clever you can think to say, somebody’s already said it better!”

I think that came from Mark Twain?

“The man who works for nothing will never be out of work”

    My dad

  39. Many young people want to take time to “find themselves.” Who you are is not something you find, it’s something you create
    — me

      1. Maybe no two men are equal, but I do believe this quote is true. If someone was capable of doing something once, I believe everybody else can, but only if they are willing to do it. We all have the ability of doing everythig we want. We set our own boundries.

“Whether you think you can’t or can, you are right”

        “You are your biggest obstacle”

  40. I have alot of favorites

    If I stoop
Into a dark tremendous sea of cloud,

Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win. -Stephen King

    1. …with respect…

Oprah Winfrey did not creat the saying… It was quoted before she was even born.
      Please give credit where due.

“The greatest discovery of any generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitude.”
      WILLIAM JAMES
      US Pragmatist philosopher & psychologist (1842 – 1910)

      1. Thanks for your thoughts Dom. While very similar, the quotes aren’t exactly the same. The one included in the article was indeed from Oprah Winfrey. The version you cited was indeed from William James. There’s no doubt that Oprah’s version was influenced by James’. But as that was the version I initially came across while reviewing and gathering quotes for the article, that’s the correct citation for it. But I appreciate you including James’ version here for everyone to see. I’m sure there are many similar quotes out there to others on the list, some newer and some older. It’s always interesting to see where someone’s own thoughts might have originally stemmed from. Appreciate the contribution. 🙂

    1. That was Captain Kirk from Star Trek, in response to Spock’s frequent observations on the futiity of the missions at hand.

      1. It’s cool that so many well-known quotes come from characters rather than actual people. So many of them come from clever writers who never get much credit for them.

  43. “There is no justice in war, nor is there any right or wrong. Whoever wins the fight becomes right, and the blinded opinions of those men become justice.”-not sure by who, but i defiantly modified and added to this. Also-
“Any and all who would fight for power are not fit for it. It is only those who have power thrust upon them unexpectedly and unwanted, and who find themselves capable of it, who are fit to wield it.”-again, just a random thing I just thought of.

  44. All generalisations are false including this one.

  46. “People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that’s what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life. A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave. A soul mates purpose is to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life, then introduce you to your spiritual master…”

      2. To Anonymous: The United States of America has always practiced just the opposite of getting your enemies before they get you again. When we have won a war,we went in and rebuilt the countries of our enemies, became friends with them. Germany and Japan are two examples. And the only thing we asked from those countries was enough land to bury our dead. We did this in France, so you see the tombstones there. In Okinawa, the tombstones there. On and On and On, America has been there, lost our boys, and went back and rebuilt their lands. This practice is our way of winning the world for Democracy, so that every adult may have an equal vote to elect his or her public officials, speak freely one’s opinions, and read from a free press.

It hurt when I lost each of the various men I fell in love with. Now, though, I am convinced that no one loses anyone, because no one owns anyone. That is the true experience of freedom: having the most important thing in the world without owning it.”

“We can never judge the lives of others, because each person knows only their own pain and renunciation. It’s one thing to feel that you are on the right path, but it’s another to think that yours is the only path.”

  98. One quote I liked is that from the movie American Beauty . In the end the dead protagonist says :
it’s hard to stay mad when there’s so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I’m seeing it all at once, and it’s too much. My heart fills up like a balloon that’s about to burst …

And then I remember … to relax, and not try to hold on to it. And then it flows through me like rain. And I can’t feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life. You have no idea what I’m talking about, I’m sure. Don’t worry … you will someday.

  99. “I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of stars makes me dream.” -Vincent Van Gogh

I’ve always loved this quotation because I completely understand how he felt.

  100. “A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often and realize how fortunate you are right now.” Unknown

  101. The real term should be, ‘Life is like your last meal; you have to savor it, enjoy it, and make it last as long as you can. It doesn’t matter what it tastes like, as long as it is delicious to you, because when it’s gone, you can never get it back’ .

  102. you guys missed possibly the greatest ever quote on death and love.
“Don’t pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all, those who live without love.” Albus Dumbledore

  103. That we’re like animals, there’s war up there everywhere, its in the blood, its natural – peace that’s an accident, its what IS! when you’re pushed – killing is as easy as breating. You stop killing at one place its starts at another but it’s okay coz you’re killing for your country. But it ain’t your country that’s askin, its few guys on top who want it. Old men start it, young men fight it, nobody wins, everybody in the middle dies and nobody tells the truth, and God’s gonna make that all go away??!?!
Fighting changes things not words!!! – rambo 4 deleted scene

Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of themself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, “If I Live, I will kill you, If I Die, You are forgiven.” Such is the Rule of Honor.

We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. – C. S. Lewis, The Abolition of Man

Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing. – Robert E. Howard, The Tower of the Elephant

  104. If you can only feel good about yourself when you put someone else down you do not have confidence. If you can rejoice in another persons accomplishment then you have found confidence in yourself.

  105. “Give me the strength to change the things that I can. The Courage to change the things that I can not. And the wisdom to tell the difference.”

“I hate malls, its too crowded. Its a wonder why no one ever goes there.”

  106. I just realized the first quote was said wrong

“Give me the courage to change the things that I can, the strength to accept the things that I can not, and the wisdom to tell the difference.”

    my bad

    1. Actually it’s:
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference
      🙂

  107. Be thyself.

  110. “To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one’s ability, for I feel that life is measured in achievement, not in years alone.” Bruce McLaren

  111. I really enjoyed reading your recommended quotes. I’m also a writer… as a hobby… and write/post quotes.

GET TO KNOW YOU. It takes a lifetime to know your partner; but it’s not needed at the cost of losing yourself. Enlighten yourself with getting to know YOU. Your relationship with your SELF is the most significant, including GOD. Partners may come and go; but YOU are the only one, who you will never lose.

When you make someone a mark, you are actually making yourself a mark. So, when you see a sucker, try and see if you have the will power to find your morals and stay away from the sugar. Relationships aren’t all about the sugar. Taking advantage of someone is a weakness; and anyone, who has ever been taken advantage of, knows how it feels.

“I feel so ugly.” There’s only so much we can do to change our body due to genetics; but you can still change your attitude. Nothing is wrong with your look. It’s your attitude of blaming your body to avoid what’s really bothering you. True change is internal & starts with you.

Why is it that when some men see a woman, who works hard to maintain, assumes she’s doing it for THAT reason? The slight cues seem to key them into what they “think” they know about her. Off to assumptions & out the door they go!

If everyone is too busy picking up the crumbs from the table for themselves, then no one will see the big picture of a flawed model that puts a “smarter” individual on top of others, who are just as smart, but unwilling to lead. Intelligence & leadership come from a method of thought you apply. If you find the method to learning, then you can learn anything.

You’re AMAZING! Don’t allow negative ppl to shake up your self worth by listening to their misinformed myths. Don’t treat your body as an enemy. Our creation (body & spirit) is miraculous. Your measuring stick is based upon your character, not looks.

Reclaim yourself. APPRECIATE, be ATTENTIVE, & ACCEPT. Become an advocate of not being obsessed with looks. Don’t take away from what makes you special in any shape as a woman or man.

MAKEUP & HAIRDO’S WRAP US UP IN A FAKE IDEA OF BEAUTY. They’re confidence boosters; but shouldn’t be used to replace the image of who you are. Beauty & confidence are found in every type of shape & look, but are derived from our spirit. Nourish yourself from the inside & your appeal will shine out

  117. “Be who are you are and say what you feel, because those who matter don’t mind. and those who mind don’t matter.” ~ Dr. Suess

  118. Long quote I like…

“You can shed tears that she is gone,
or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her only that she is gone,
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what she’d want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.” – David Harkins

batch of quotes covered almost every facet of life but history. My all time favorite quote and I apologize
because for the life of me I am unable to remember the author, but I’ll never forget the quote which is:
“History is about a place that doesn’t exist written by a man who wasn’t there” For some reason that
particular quote has always stuck in my mind and in so many ways is so very true! Quotes are awesome, thank-you…

  124. ” I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions, I’ve been entrusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
    – Michael Jordan –

  125. I saw this on an old movie theater sign on Hollywood blvd and have never forgot it:

Our background and circumstances may influence who we are, but we are responsible for who we become ~

    1. I heard a (not so) slightly different version:

“The love of the game is in my heart, which spreads to the blood in which I bleed. The passion of playing is in my skin, which is shed when I sweat. Playing isn’t something that you do, it’s a part of you” THANK YOU ALL WHO HAVE READ THESE. IF YOU DECIDE TO LEAVE A COMMENT PLEASE MAKE IT POSITIVE. THANKS AGAIN!

    1. My daughter said it is better to be prepared and never have the opportunity than to have the opportunity and not be prepared… she pitched for the Colorado Silver Bullets…

  128. Beyond This Life:
Beyond a smile, there is sorrow

  129. Think of dark problems as a gleaming challenge. Remember a diamond is just a lump of coal that made the best of a little pressure.

Don’t know who said it but love this one.

    1. good qoute paul its one of my favourites. “A man should never be judged on his fear, but on his courage to overcome that fear”.

These are just a few of my favorite quotes that I have found over the past few years, especially the Winston Churchill and Jim Valvano quotes

  131. If you enter this world knowing you are loved and you leave this world knowing the same, everything else can be dealt with.
    -Michael Jackson

  132. I don’t know why you didn’t include this quote because I personally think it’s the most influential:
“it is better to be hated for who you are, than loved for who you are not.”
    -Kurt Cobain

  133. And my very own quotes:

“True power is when you have every obligation to take someones life, but you choose to let them live.”

“Paratroopers don’t die, they go to hell to regroup.”

    1. Zeehan: I love this. When you keep going you eventually realize that you are better off now then you were before all the hell you went through. We learn by our mistakes. The creator set it up this way, i don’t believe that anyone needs to be “saved” from hell by their sins, but it is hell to go through some of our mistakes. We are often burned with the consequences, but they are temporary and most of the time, we may put them aside and begin again or build the same thing we are working on by erasing the parts where we made our mistakes.

  135. “When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade, and for God’s sake, don’t squirt them in people’s eyes. Instead, think, think long and hard because if you can get a philosophical concept like life to give you real, physical lemons, then you’re one step away from uncovering the secrets of the universe!”
I’m not sure where that’s from, I found it while surfing year ago, it might not be perfect word-for-word, but I can’t find it again due to the spam of portal 2 comments when I try looking for it on google

    – James Baldwin

** that’s because their systems are open and not frozen ** and I’ll write a thesis on this!! : )

  138. “Sometimes you choose your friends; sometimes they choose you.”

  139. These quotes are really exellent and each i love each one them. These quotes ll be really useul to success in life. its awesome

    1. Indeed, it’s like a new portal of knowledge opens up…
Our perceptions are shared and together we interpret life, emotions, thoughts, lessons, etc.
It’s great to know about quotes. (Wisdom passed down from generation to generation.)
      And so, we continue…

  142. “The world is three days, yesturfay has vanished, tommorrow is not guaranteed, so you only have one day, today, make the most of it” – abu bakr

u guys should post quotes by prophits and their compainions

  143. “our hunger for food will eventually overcome our thirst for love”

I came up with this a couple years ago. It sounds dark until you think about it enough…

  144. “No matter how rich you become, how famous or powerful, when you die the size of your funeral will still pretty much depend on the weather” – Michael Pritchard

“Don’t worry about the world coming to an end today. It’s already tomorrow in Australia” – Charles M. Schulz

  145. Some of them really touched my soul. The most is “Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you’ll understand what little chance you have in trying to change others.”

  146. “It is difficult, but not impossible, to conduct strictly honest business.”

    – Mahatma Gandhi

I wish he was right, I think nowadays it is impossible!

    1. It might be tougher these days, but I’m sure it’s not impossible. It just depends on personal ethics and having the willpower to run a respectable business. We can’t let the dishonest among us lead us down paths we aren’t personally comfortable with after all. Just stay true to yourself and you can certainly do it. 🙂

  147. It is not a matter of running a respectable business or not.. Many businesses are respectable and socially responsible to their society! But then it makes you think whether they are being socially responsible for the mere fact of showing their “good side” of doing business and hence gaining more customers or because they want to help other. The latter is definitely an honest business but would you consider the former?

    1. Of course I would. Someone having a different motive for doing something doesn’t make them dishonest. It would only be dishonest if they blatantly lied about what they’re doing or why. Now you’re talking about socially responsible business decisions which is a different topic altogether. You can be a completely honest business or business owner without making decisions that others would consider socially responsible. That’s very subjective, and frankly no matter how socially responsible a company is, they could always be moreso. So I don’t think this is a case of honesty vs dishonesty so much as whether or not a company is doing enough to satisfy the desires of their own target customers.

  148. Awesome quotes I have a couple

“Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely”
    -Lord Action

“If death is so easy, why do we try so hard to outlive it?”
    – I made this up

  149. “Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. And today? Today is a gift. That’s why we call it the present.” – Babatunde Olatunji

    1. I’ve heard something similar — if you have nothing worth dying for, you have nothing worth living for — but I’m also not sure of the exact wording or who the quote is from. Good addition though!

EDIT: It looks like that quote might have been from Martin Luther.

  150. my favorite. “it may happen that i never see you again, it may happen that i fall in love again, but never will it happen that i fall again, the way i fall for you…”

  151. I use quotes in my artwork (http://www.etsy.com/shop/ColourMeHappy)… Here are some of my favorites…

People who have great lives think and talk about what they love more than what they don’t love.

The best way to happiness is to live in gratitude.

Holding onto anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else… you are the one getting burned.

Friends are Gods’s way of taking care of us

You will always have time for the things you put first.

We need not think alike to love alike.

  152. Being a big sports fan, I think this quote is greatly forgotten in your list: “Football is a simple game; 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end the Germans win.” – Garry Lineker.

I didn’t read every quote, but the one that stood from the rest for me is: “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.”

  153. Oh, and I forgot to say thanks for the quotes!

In case you forgot this brilliant quote:
“The difference between school and life? In school, you’re taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson.” – Tom Bodett.

    Bye 😉

  154. Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what u really r & your reputation is what others think u r.

      1. hey it goes like this –
if you speak something bad it will hurt powerfully – rather than writing on a piece of paper
