What keeps you ticking?

Everyone has their own ways of unwinding – ways that will relax and rejuvenate them. Stuck in a sea of work, it becomes essential to steer towards a world that revives you.

What do you do when you feel like you are drowning in a deep sea and you need to desperately come out for a gasp of fresh air? If you’re on the computer working, do you steer towards the lighter side of the virtual world or get away from the darned machine?

Earlier, most people would go out for a smoke or a walk when they needed a break, but now all they do is click on the mouse and go to a different virtual environment that gives them a sense of peace, happiness and refreshes them.

Each and every person has his own watering holes – his very own list of places they turn to when they need to get away from the pressures of work or life – places that offer peace, rejuvenation and relaxation.

But wherever you decide to go, it is very important to set a fixed break-time before getting away from work. Do you need fifteen minutes or more or less? Fix a specific time limit beforehand and make sure you stick to that, Letting yourself go may eventually take up hours and hours of your time, and this can happen more if you’re using the internet for relaxation. Internet entertainment can prove to be an addiction if not handled properly.

Like me, if you happen to be in the habit of visiting your favorite internet marketing forums in your free time, where you enjoy reading the content, it is easy to get carried away and spend hours browsing the forums. You may find something interesting and give in to temptation. But this is something you cannot afford to do. It can lead to your lagging behind with work, missing deadlines and making your clients unhappy – which will all affect your main work.

Discipline is the key to success. Everybody needs a break and they need to relax themselves but going back to work at the right time is necessary to ensure you don’t land yourself in trouble. Imagine the pain and agony of losing clients, not because of your work, but because of your unprofessionalism. Nothing can be worse than that.

Internet is a place where you will find several watering holes and once you get used to them, leaving them can be a difficult thing to do. In forums, you will have members talk about their hobbies, families, religion, politics, marketing online and what have you. Going back quietly takes some effort but you need to learn to do that – at any cost. This is the reason a time has to be fixed before entering the place and you will have to stick to it.

Everyone’s methods of relaxation are different. Some people may just take a break away from the computers and do some exercise or talk to friends and family. Some may just play games. Some may watch television. Doesn’t matter what it is you do, as long as it serves the purpose of de-stressing you.

There are times when we get so involved in our work that we forget to take breaks. Some of us may even think that we can get more done if we don’t waste time taking breaks, but it does not work that way. Your mind needs relaxation. You will not be able to deliver your best when you are tired and stressed out. We are only human and we need something to keep us ticking. Find your watering holes and keep returning to them when you feel the need.
