I agree with Marty. I’m now a 25 year, un-employed engineer. My boss was a complete idiot. Because I knew more than he did, he considered me a threat. He got me fired for no reason, and the company got rid of one of their higher paid engineers. That’s what I get for 10 years of loyal service. I’m still looking for a job. It’s been 6 months now.

It’s definitely important in a bad economy to get started and not sit around waiting for things to happen. Find a job and if it doesn’t work out, find another. In the meanwhile, take unemployment benefits as that will help you through the tough times.

Companies are getting rid of the highly skilled and highly paid workers and keeping those who should be tossed. They want to trim expenses and rehire the lost positions at a cheaper rate given the economy. They should instead terminate the ones who only work for a paycheck and play office politics and keep those of us who know what we are doing and care. It is amazing that they keep the idiots in HR and idiot supervisors at times like these. Those are the first that need to be let go!
