Ten Best Health Facilities In the United States!

A trend for specialization has seen an increase in healthcare facilities all over the world. A healthcare facility can be anything from a simple medical clinic to a large multispecialty hospital. A good hospital is one that has specialized staff and equipment, the latest technology, research facilities, conducts clinical trials and strives towards improving patient care.

With the thousands of hospitals out there, deciding where to get treatment is a daunting task. However, hospital popularity among patients goes a long way in determining which hospital is good and what each hospital specializes in.

Consistency being the key; hospitals with consistent great performance are considered to be the best. Hospitals that belong to this cadre not only recruit the most qualified physicians and nursing care, but also strive to provide specialized services to patients.

There are several such health facilities in the United States that provide specialized services to their patients. Here we look at a few top hospitals that have good reviews from the patients as well as from various hospital surveys done. They top the charts of the healthcare providers.

  • Nice post – indeed these are all really great hospitals. Personally, my favorite hospital nationwide is Mass General, as I lived in Boston between 1988-1991 and got treated there once after I got a light case of food poisoning. I was well cared for and treated. Thanks for sharing.

  • Where is whats promised, which is a website that tells about death rates of hospitals. This is advertisement for the top ten hospitals. Good for them. I will probably never go to any one of these. I want to know how my local hospitals rate on this list.

  • I think that The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center needs to be on the list of the top 10 best hospitals in the US. They have the best doctors that I have ever seen along with the nursing staff they are fantastic as well they do all types of different care there and the best I have seen. They do all types of transplants like the small bowel, pancreas, liver, stomach, duedonum, kidneys, and lung. My husband is a patient there because he had a small bowel, pancreas, stomach, and duedonum all transplanted in January and his doctor there is Dr. Kareem Abu-Elmagad who is very caring and loving to all his patients is the BEST!!!!! God Bless the transplant team that worked on my husband and God Bless all those who took GREAT care of him while he was in the hospital.

  • I really liked the informations. It makes me realized that taking care of our health is very important and hoping to be able to work in any of the mentioned hospitals someday so I can help other people value their life too.

  • Interesting. It seems only the well known names get on these biased list. How about

    Louisville’s Jewish Hospital
    NKC in Louisville
Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis
    St. Joseph’s of Atlanta
    Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati
    Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta
    Frazier Rehab in Louisville
    Shepard Spinal Care in Atlanta

There are lots of places one can go for great medical care; you need to do some additional investigating so as to not shortchange other very worthy institutions.

  • I underwent surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston several months ago. Amazing facility and personnel. Top notch. Great Surgeons, nurses. If it wasn’t for MD Anderson, I would not be alive today.

  • Although in very general terms I agree with what you have written, unless one is speaking about an emergency situation, I think I would first go according to the doctor involved and his experience and only second consider the hospital itself.

  • @ Eric – This was certainly not meant to be an advertisement for any hospital as we are in no way connected to any of them. The idea was to provide useful information to our readers, about the hospitals that ranked high for certain specialties. Who knows, we may some day bring you the hospitals with high death rates too. Our aim is to provide our readers what they wish to read.

    • Looks like some great hospitals here. Check out the hospitals we have on Oklahomahospitaldirectory.com they are not just Oklahoma. Type in a state and see some other great hospitals. Open the URL search bar and see links to jobs, donate, Volunteer, Specialties and much more.We are pretty much not for profit.

  • @ Sarah – Out of more than 5000 hospitals that have been screened, The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is among the top 20 of the best hospitals in the US, which makes it one of the best. You do not see it in this list only because we decided to show 10 hospitals here.

  • @ Alice Darr – Agreed there are several other good healthcare facilities like the ones you mentioned and there are more than 150 hospitals that have ranked well for their services in some way or the other. We certainly do not claim that they are limited to the ten we have written about. However, since we have written about ten good hospitals that gained recognition for providing specialized care, we could not include all.

  • Kuddos to you who have taken the time to identify and give credit to those among the Best Hospitals…..

If possible, it would be most beneficial if (THE WORST) could be listed, if only in order to make others “clean up their act”…..since Emergency Rooms(if and when needed) give most people a keen INTRO as to the TYPE OF SERVICES to expect from becoming a PATIENT….AND which hospital to steer clear of ….!!

    Choices well chosen !! Thanks.
    S.

  • I took a family member to Johns Hopkins this week, and I have to say they are excellent at moving people through a very complex process that involved several different tests, some that are not available in other area hospitals, and examinations by several different experts. They went above and beyond in making sure we knew precisely where to go, where to wait at each step, waiting time was always much shorter than expected, and they also provided other services that we did not expect. I would definitely trust them with my care.

  • Review of 10 best health facilities of united states…

a review of the top 10 health care providers of united states, based on reviews and feedback of patients and various surveys done to find out which health care providers in the US are good…

  • The data used for ranking of the the surveys should definitely be included.

    I’d be most interested in:

    1) infection rates

    2) diagnosis made while under the hospital’s care (inpatient treatment or
    outpatient encounters).

    3) lifespans, post-surgery, or after chemotherapy or radiation treatments.
(This should be obtainable from various longitudinal studies, etc.)

    4) JCAHO accreditation results.

  • @ Joe – We appreciate your question. We bring you the results of surveys to make you aware of the good medical facilities. However, we are not authorized to advice you on the medical facility to use. Your physician could help you with that.

  • This is a great article that provides tons of good information. I would like to share my experiences with Mayo Clinic.
I am going to write about my experiences with Mayo Clinic, it may be a little long, but, I feel, this note has some good first hand information about their system and people.
Over 15 years ago I started having extreme neck and shoulder pain. When the pain got so bad, I began to try to see what was going on with me medically. After having seeking help from 14 different neurologist and neuro-surgeons, over a tri-state area, some would say they were not sure, most told me and my family that I was making the pain up just to get drugs, I thought I would loss my mind. A friend, who had just returned from Mayo in MN, and was pleased beyond words, encouraged me to try to go to Mayo.
I went to Mayo in MN, they found I have a disease, that grows tumors and I had a tumor on my brachial plexus(in my neck and upper back area) the size of a Nerf football. The next day I had an 11 hours surgery at St.Mary’s hospital, with the Mayo Neuro-Surgeons performed the surgery. This was a very high risk surgery, the staff at the hospital stayed with my husband and disabled Mother for hours, getting updates to tell them every 15-30 minutes. When they gave the report that they had the tumor out and were sending it to Pathology, my family was beside themselves, again this lady gave them emotional support. They were told that the Pathologist would come and talk to them about what they had found out about the tumor. At that time the hospital lady took them to a special place in the hospital to be able to be in a more secluded area, so they could talk with the doctor. Within 45 minutes the Pathologist was in the room talking with them, explaining what they did and even had a cross section cut piece of the tumor, to show them and explain things, and, of course they had tested it for cancer. The report was joyous, no cancer, the doctors, nurses, and support staff were some of the nicest and most professional people I have ever met.
Mayo uses a couple of hospitals in Rochester and all of the nurses in these hospital have to have at least an R.N. Degree. This shows that they strive to have to most educated nurses and staff they can get.
Medical cost was a big worry for me. After I got well enough to travel, we headed to the deep South to our home. A week later, I started getting my medical bills. To my joy and surprise, the prices for everything listed was much less, Mayo’s charges were sizably less expensive, on everything!(doctors fees, tests, hospital stays, etc.) Every doctor that I went to close to home, charged me thousands of dollars more, than what Mayo Clinic did.(And they were not even close to a correct diagnosis I could not believe that a world class medical facility fees and charges were considerably less than our local doctors and hospital! I did do a 1 to 1 comparison from one doctor I saw here in the south, put me in the hospital, did a MRI, ran numerous blood work, some other scans, etching compared the Mayo bill for the same test and the same length of stay in MN hospital. Mayo fees were less than half the cost! what is even more crazy is that none of those doctors figured out what was wrong with me! I paid for useless information!
Since this surgery, I have had to have several others surgeries and procedures do to my disease. I have gone to Mayo for all the surgeries and treatments. However, I have gone to Jacksonville, Florida for a couple of these procedures. Jacksonville, Florida has a good system and great doctors as well. My favorite between the two campus’s is the Clinic in MN. Cold there, but care givers have very warm hearts!
If you feel you are ill and no doctor is helping you, please seek help from the top Doc’s on this list or at Mayo Clinic, you will not regret it and probably save you money as well! Take care and God Bless All!!

    • I, too, am from the deep south. One of the top 3 poorest States with lousy medical care. I am only 49, but have been told to say my good byes as there is nothing more to do but increase my oxycontin. By the way…I don’t even have a diagnosis. When I spoke to Mayo, they took down a lot of information, and said that “if” the physicians who looked over my appointment application aggreed to allow me to schedule an appointment, it could be well over a year before I could get in. All because I am “undiagnosed”.
Can anyone offer me some advise? This will be a mixture of: orthopeodic, neurological, genetic, lack of wound healing which keeps me in the hospital, mediates due to a type of fatigue which keeps me in bed approx 20 hours per day. My weekly bath and hair washing which my husband does for me will exhaust me to such an extent that I will sleep without waking for 50 hours. (my husband says he wakes me to take meds and sips of water, but I do not recall this). I have listed @40% of symptoms. What kind of hospital (or mental institution) should I be looking for, and how can I get in as a patient and not a human donor (as I have volunteered to do after my passing).?

      • I am 50 years old have have suffered from bouts of fatigue since childhood. I have knee pain, muscle pain, sometimes depression, stomach pain. My gums bleed and I bruise easily. For years I had an embarrassing rash that itched and burned. In early childhood, I went through a period of time when I stopped gaining weight. I am very intelligent but I have episodes of brain fog, which contributed to my having to quit college. Do any of these sound familiar to you, other than the fatigue.

I am planning on getting myself and my daughter tested for celiac disease, an autoimmune disease affecting the small intestine. My daughter has experienced the same problems. Johns Hopkins is studying autoimmune diseases. They can be difficult to diagnose because the symptoms can seem separate from each other, and can also be associated with other illnesses.

        Good luck to you.

    • Im sorry I regret going to Mayo clinic in mn. They couldn’t diagnose me. I went through a lot of tests and they wanted me to stay 2 more months. They diagnosed all kinds of things that were not correct. Missed things that im still dealing with.

  • Myo clinic is the best, they have advance neurosurgical tech. & the best training program in the world for neurosurgery……….

  • I need to find out who would be the best doctor in the midwest for lower back pain surgeries. I am assuming the best neurosurgeon. I really need some help after 3 back surgeries, on failed fusion with nerve damage and pain regulation with stimulator device. This is my new year’s resolution-to help my son grow up instead of having him take care of me.

    • BARNES-JEWISH HOSPITAL ST. LOUIS!!!!!! HANDS DOWN, NO QUESTION!!! Dr. Keith Bridwell, Dr. Buchowski…they’re the ONLY PEOPLE ON THE PLANET THAT ID TRUST TO CLEAN UP SOMEONE ELSE’S MESS!!!!!!

      Becca

    • For what surgery? Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis has an EXCELLENT neuro-medicine & neuro-surgery dept. the physicians, nurses & techs are second to none.

  • My Wife had total knee replacement on April 6th, 2010. The knee was successful but the nerve has gone to sleep and she is not able to walk without a walker. She has fallen backward 5 or 6 times when she was using the walker.

We have had some nerve test run here in North Alabama and had a Myelogram on April 19th, 2010 but had not heard from the test.

I am interested in where I can get excellent care with her being able to walk again without a walker.

Do you have a list of excellent places we can go to get great care?

    Thanks, Bill King

  • Bascom, HSS and National Jewish are all tops in their areas, but I would think others would make the list because they impact more people – Children’s Philadelphia; Memorial Sloan Kettering; New York Presbyterian even Rehab Institute of Chicago.

  • we have seen several ped depts at johns hopkins, have never been admitted, there, but have to several other dc area hospital. we have never chosen to go to JH for admission due to the doctors being cold and seemingly uncaring. I know their performance matters above all, but it is hard when you are dealing with a child and they are so abupt. there is an arrogance that i can’t get passed. we have seen eye, neuro, uro and gastro. We have also had problems with billing, saying that things are aurthorized and then getting a bill for them. Twice it was never even submitted to insurance company.

      • Hi Becca,
I read your post from last year. Have you been treated at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis? My daughter has serious nerve pain and I’ve found a doctor from St. Louis who is a nerve specialist from St. Louis. It’s so difficult to find someone that we can trust being that her past surgeries haven’t helped her with the pain she is experiencing. Please respond if you have any information to share with me. Thanks so much, Mary

        • Yes Mary, as have MANY MANY friends & family! Who is the doc you’ve found, have you made contact & where do you live? • I had a serious ear issue and went to the Bascom Palmer Insitute at the University of Miami. Their expertise, compassion, and follow-ups were terrific. Hard to express my gratitude. What a great place.

  • I had severe allergice reaction to H1N1 vaccine in 2009. I was not treated immediately by the doctors in er at local hospital and now have neurological problems as well as my immune system continually. being attacked. There have been others also that had reactions and doctors at some of the top hospitals simply have no explanation when nothing shows in their testing. I went to john Hopkins 9 months after vaccination hoping for a blessing and the knowledge that doctors there would be able to research and provide my family and I with treatment. I had tests done and spent 45 minutes with neuroimmunologist. I was given steroids and told nice story by doctor. I have lost my life because i have never received proper treatment. I had burning in brain after vaccine, lost my speech, couldn’t count 3 pennies, uncontrollable shaking, sat catonic in chair, etc., I now suffer on daily basis with severe joint problems, muscle pain, loss of vision and pain in right eye, snapping and twitching in body, slurred speech, etc. I am baffled at the response I have received from doctors especially one whom asked me if I was trying to get disability. I was a healthy mom of 4, teacher, and very active. John Hopkins not a good hospital to go to if have problem that is out of the norm. No RESEARCH .

  • The hospitals of the ELITE (Senators, Representatives, ex-Presidents, moviestars), while the common people use self-diagnosis and the local witch to help them.

  • My daughter has had several surgeries due to damaged nerve in her foot. If anyone has gone to any good doctors to be treated and experienced positive results, could you please post. My heart aches for her to see her suffering from this pain.

    • Susan Mackinnon, md or Terence Myckatyn, md at Barnes-Jewish Hospital Washington University in St.Louis!!!!!! You wouldn’t believe the miracles they’re able to perform!!!!

      • Have lower lumbar nerve problems. Stenosis, Spondylolisthesis, scoliosis, and sciatica. All the
S nerve problems one can have. Need to get neurosurgeon to do most up-to-date procedures.
Does Barnes-Jewish in Stl Louis have a specialist there? It is going to be a complicated deal.
        Thanks!

  • Thank you for the information. For a second I thought I would see Hackensack Hospital in NJ in the mix, but you are talking about clinics. Thank you for the information Hasan. 🙂

  • This is a great list! I’ll put in a plug for Mayo Clinic in Rochester. I did an internship there last summer, and they are an amazing place to work or get care. They really do believe in putting the needs of the patient first.

  • Hi, I am looking for a place where to find a valid solution for my 20 years old son. Since he was a baby he never slept through the night. It takes hours to fall asleep and then he wakes up couple of times. He also has anxiety. All the doctors we went to ended up prescribing medication. I would like to find a place where to have a complete evaluation and explanation.
    Thank you for any suggestion.
