Retro Car Ads: Passion, Style, Smart Ideas.

vintage

Retro, retro, retro … this sounds like a music to my heart. The fashion, the style, the way of leaving, all this looks so fascinating, so interesting, so charming and unusual. The vintage ads should be proudly put among the greatest masterpieces, they are so simple, so naive, so touching and inspirational! At least for me. I was so excited reviewing hundreds of vintage car ads for the last couple of days to choose the ones I would like to share with you! All the retro car ads presented today have interesting captions which describe in a very simple manner what’s so great about the car, so be sure to take a few seconds to read the text on the ads.

Well, no more talk – you’ve got to see that! Below is the collection of retro cars ads, both nostalgic and inspirational.

Highest Mountains in the World

highest-mountains

The greatness of nature has no bounds. From the smallest grain of sand to the highest mountains, each has a sense of meaning and destination. Scientists say that mountains were created as a result of the shifts of the earth’s crust, but I believe that there is some force that knows what it’s doing and has some plan for all of us. I envy people who got a chance to see the magnificent beauty of these mountains (the world’s tallest) with their own eyes, but I want to thank every photographer whose photo we are showcasing today for giving us a chance to visit the places they’ve been and see the wondrous sights they’ve seen.

The Himalayas are among the youngest mountain ranges on the planet (about 50 million years old), and they are the home of the world’s highest peaks. In Nepali, “himal” means “snow-covered mountain” which in a single word beautifully describes what a traveler sees. The mountain range stretches across six countries: India, Bhutan, China, Afghanistan, Nepal, and Pakistan. No matter which of those countries you travel to, you’re sure to be charmed by the Himalayas forever.

The Himalayas have served as a natural barrier between different cultures for ages, and at the same time they have had a tremendous impact on South Asian teachings and beliefs. Many Himalayan peaks are sacred in both Hinduism and Buddhism and there are many folk tales about these graceful mountains that are passed on from fathers to sons.

1. Everest

Everest is the highest mountain in the world. It was named after George Everest, a geographer who studied India in the 19th century. The mountain is located on the border between Nepal and Tibet, and its height is 29,035.44 feet (8,850 meters) which is like 17 Taipei Towers! Everest is the sacred dream of all the mountain climbers. Every year despite all the dangers and high costs, hundreds of people try conquering the mountain.

The Best 80s Cartoons for Girls and Boys

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Are you a child of the 80s, or just one who grew up loving all of the 80s cartoons? They just don’t make cartoons like that anymore, and I’d argue they probably won’t ever again — heck, they’ve tried! While networks (and movie studios) have tried in recent years to revive some of the old 80s cartoons, nothing new really compares.

While there’s no “best 80s cartoons” list that everyone will agree on, I’m going to break down my five top picks for 80s girls’ cartoons and 80s boys’ cartoons, and then follow it up with a list of other cartoons from the 80s. See if they spark any memories, and then share your favorite 80s cartoons with us in the comments!

The Best 80s Cartoons for Girls

I grew up as a girl in 80s, so I’m a bit biased towards the female-oriented cartoons. To be completely honest with you, I still watch some of these when I need brain candy (and others I’d love to be able to get my hands on (namely the old Charmkins special and Rose Petal Place cartoons). Looking back at what my friends and I most often watched (and which shows sucked us into making our parents buy the most toys — the real purpose of many 80s cartoons), here are my top five picks for the best 80s cartoons for girls:

Modern Furniture Designs

Friday, August 7th, 2009

What comes to your mind when you hear “furniture”? Your chair and table in the office? Your bed? Sofa? Lounge? Maybe your wardrobe? While you likely imagine something pretty traditional, designers from all over the world are busy thinking outside of the box when it comes to modern furniture design. They compete to turn the concept of furniture into unique pieces of art! The shapes they create and materials they use in these modern furniture marvels are unbelievable, and the “things” they design in many cases are just as comfortable as more traditional furniture. I love all the innovations and I praise ergonomics, so let us jump into the world of modern furniture design and see what it has to offer — one part function and two parts style!

The World’s Ten Tallest Roller Coasters

If you’re a roller coaster enthusiast, you know there’s nothing more exhilarating than the suspense of climbing that first hill, looking over the edge, waiting… waiting… waiting. And then whoosh! You plummet, surrounded by screams of terror and glee, hands in the air, leaving your life in the hands of the wood or steel supporting you.

Newer technologies mean you may not get that same suspense through an initial climb, as some of the tallest steel roller coasters instead launch you to the top of the climb in a matter of seconds. No matter what kind of climb they offer though, the trip back down is often the most exciting part of the ride. If you’re the type of person who’s always looking for taller, faster, or longer rides, you’ll get a thrill out of these — the world’s ten tallest roller coasters!
