The Glory of Grandma’s Vintage Photographs

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Old photographs are gorgeous, aren’t they? They’re more than black and white or sepia pictures. Each and every one captures just a little piece of history. Think of all of the things we wouldn’t know — wouldn’t be able to see — if we didn’t have vintage photos. The style offers an interesting contrast to today’s photos as well. Because of the nature of the technology of the time, photos were often much more posed instead of featuring the great number of candid shots we have today. Do you have a favorite old photograph, maybe of older family members or ancestors from a few generations back? Tell us about it in the comments. In the meantime, enjoy this photostream of vintage photos.

Winter Wonderlands Captured on Film

Friday, December 25th, 2009

Oh winter air, how you run through my veins! You may turn my blood cold, but you still make my heart warm when I catch a glimpse of your stark white beauty. You would think a blanket of freshly fallen snow would hide nature’s beauty — bury it until a warm spring breeze comes to melt it away. But instead winter reminds us of the delights of dormancy as the world rests and prepares to come to life again. If you’re like me, and you enjoy the winter wonderland a good snowfall offers, you’ll love this winter photostream.

Why Geeks Make Great Lovers

geeks make great lovers

Alright ladies. Pull up a chair. It’s girl talk time. We’re going to talk about men. We’re going to talk about sex. We’re going to talk about geeks — yes, geeks.

Let’s talk about the computer-obsessed, sci-fi loving, constant video game playing segment of the male population today, and why those geeks you normally wouldn’t give the time of day can actually make the best lovers. Yes. That semi-adorable geek next door might just surprise you if you take him for a roll in the hay. Here’s why:

1. Unlike traditional male fantasies, no one expects you to live up to his.

You’ll never be some virtuous, other-worldly princess-warrior type who runs around half naked and kicks some serious ass. So what? Your geek gets that. He’s not going to push the issue. An “average” man on the other hand? Yeah, he probably really does hope that one day you’ll finally start calling him your “daddy,” in bed, let him spank you after he binds you in leather, and maybe even have a threesome with the cute chick he flirts with at the office. Go with a geek — unrealistic fantasies perhaps, but the expectations are easier to live up to. And hey, there’s still plenty of room for leather…. (more…)

For those who celebrate Christmas (in whatever their way may be), the holiday tends to fill us with a sense of warmth and joy. Kindness, love, and goodwill towards men are the themes of the holiday season. These Christmas photos will give you a bit of a sneek peek of holiday goodness, with all of the glitz and glitter but also all of the warmth. Maybe you’ll find a photo that sparks a special Christmas memory of your own.

Space – This Time, It’s Personal

I’m a bit anal about my personal space. In public, I like to keep a nice distance between me and people I don’t know. The habit stems from my childhood. As your typical socially awkward nerd, I quickly learned that staying away from people was the best way to avoid embarrassment — not like it mattered. Sometimes it felt like everyone was pointing out how much of a loser I was. For a while I thought that billboard would never come down.

These days I’m more confident, but I still have a few of my old tendencies. You’ll see them if you ever come with me to a bookstore. Every so often some guy enters the aisle I’m in and decides that, out of all the books in the entire store, the one he wants to look at is right next to my feet. It doesn’t matter where I happen to be. I could be in the Kinky Backwards Sex aisle and this guy will think, “Hey, that dude looks desperate enough. Maybe he knows where to find that book about banging your coffee machine.”

He’ll decide to walk over and crouch right next to me. Now I don’t know what to do. I have to run through my options. Do I stay there and remain uncomfortable? It could build character after all. Isn’t that how it works? You build character by suffering? If that’s true, that guy who wrote Angela’s Ashes had enough character building to rewrite the Harry Potter series. There’s no way I can compete with that — I only have enough character for a pamphlet. (more…)

Men in Art – Illustrations

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

There has been a lot of discussion in the comments for Women in Art – Illustrations, Part 1. As a rule, both male and female artists tend to depict women and girls as sexually attractive. I was curious to see how men tended to be portrayed in similar artwork. Frankly speaking I expected to see muscled hot bodies, heroes, bantams, and characters that depict man’s strength, will, bravery, etc. But that wasn’t the case! First, there seemed to be 20 times fewer illustrations of men versus women. Second, no one seems to illustrate men simply as men. The collection below shows different approaches to how men are featured in artistic illustrations, but you’ll see what I mean. Enjoy and share your thoughts with us!
