An Overview of the iPhone

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

The Apple iPhone has been all the rage on national and world-wide markets. The iPhone is the coolest, newest way to keep connected with others via not only a telephone, but the internet as well. The Apple iPhone has received rants and raves from consumers and critics alike, but the overall conception of the Apple iPhone has won the hearts of many people who have craved the latest of technology.

The Components of the iPhone

From the inception of the iPhone, the market has been all a buzz awaiting its arrival. The Apple iPhone has many features that people have been longing for aside from just a normal cell phone. The iPhone has a touch screen key pad, which makes for easier calling and dialing. Its sleek and mainstream design creates a sense of great style. It is also internet compatible, so the users can check their e-mails. This makes for a much greater ease of use, especially for those on the go, and who need to constantly check up on their e-mails. The iPhone can also download iTunes songs, as well as play podcasts, which can eliminate the need for a PDA, in addition to an iPod. The convenience of having everything rolled into one is why many people seek the iPhone for their cell phone services. (more…)

Safari on Windows

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Mac users have had a few advantages over PC users for a while. For a long time software on Apple computers was incompatible with other PCs, but that is no longer the case. Now Microsoft has a platform for both Apple and traditional IBM compatible personal computers. Sharing files between computers is simple.

First Apple introduced iTunes to the traditional PC world. Now, it’s introduced something else – Safari.

Safari
Safari is a web browser unique to Apple. Those with Apple computers are often dedicated users of Safari and loathed to switch to Firefox or Explorer when using a non-Apple computer. Now, they won’t have to.

The version of Safari available is Safari 3.0 which has been released to the public in beta form. Apple claims Safari is two times faster than Internet Explorer and 1.6 times faster than Firefox. When it comes to Javascript, Safari is 2.8 times faster than Explorer and 1.6 times faster than FireFox.

The beta program has other improvements from the last release as well. The neatest is the improved find feature. When searching text on a webpage using the find box, Safari will dim the page except for the text you’re seeking. That text is highlighted in orange with a white border for an easy find and read. Safari 3.0 also has drag and drop tabs and the ability to resize text area forms. (more…)

Wireless Computers

Thanks to Bluetooth technology, there are a slew of wireless gadgets on the market. Networks can go wireless and peripherals are available without wires. Despite this, under every computer desk is the same mess – the tangle of wires connecting everything together.

Now, however, researchers are experimenting with a way to remove all of the wires. Researchers at Georgia Tech have been playing with very high frequency radio signals and have discovered that it is very possible to submit large amounts of data over short distances with this technology.

Currently, the researchers have been able to send 15 gigabits per second over one meter, or slightly over a yard, 10 gigabits over 2 meters and 5 over 5 meters. Considering the size of most media files these days, large packets of data traveling between systems and components is not exceptional – it is the norm. This technology simply takes this high speed transfer an extra step – it’s more data. And it’s faster.

Those well versed in the industry feel strongly that this emerging technology will be revolutionizing at least part of the high-tech industry. Granted, there are always those who will feel uncomfortable with anything wireless except their television remote, but the majority of users will embrace the change. (more…)
