“Sleeping Policemen” are bumps in the road to slow down traffic, and the sign with the bloke crouching ON the toilet is because in some countries they use a hole in the ground that they would crouch over and may be unfamiliar with the western toilet. Some of these are only funny because of ignorance.
I wasted one minute of my life reading this thread and writing this comment.

i was lmaoing and boo hoo for whoever thinks ppl laugh out of ignorance. im sure people like me take foreign affairs into consideration but overrule them for a good laugh. lighten up
The term ‘Sleeping policemen’ in England is another name for speed humps. Still amusing though.
A lot of good jokes only work thanks to ignorance, so it isn’t necessarily a bad thing…
… but half of these signs aren’t even remotely funny, and the other half isn’t great…

I’m with Jeremy. I’m not ignorant. These signs are funny because everyone is different. When tourists come to the States I’m sure they laugh at our signs. Take it easy already!
Mistranslation of “No Loitering” on one of the signs. “No tirar basura” means “No throwing trash.”
mistranslation of “no tirar basura” to “no loitering”. they meant to say “no littering”

The sleeping policeman-sign was in Gothenburg, Sweden. And the 10 other signs in the background makes it look like some artistic thing.

the “High pedestrian Area 40 zone” one is probably in kilometers per hour, not miles per hour. 40km/h is about 25mph which is much more reasonable for a high pedestrian zone.
Some are funny and some are not.
Yo Dave…it’s not a “crouching” toilet, it’s a “Squat” toilet. Oh, and Bill…”Squat” toilets are NOT restricted to Thailand. Squat toilets are present all over Asia and Southeast Asia. Leave your so-called “EXPERTISE” to people who actually live here!
