If you have seen serious gamers, you would notice they do not just play their games, gaming is a passion with them. They do everything possible to win their games, including using cheat codes. Now there are better and more powerful tools known as game controllers, which is the name given to a tool that lets the player control the game better and are proving to be invaluable. These tools have been created for fanatical gamers who would do anything to get closer to gaming glory.

Hook, Line and Sinker: The best part about games is that one can do everything they are not good at in real life, like fishing. Angling has its share of staunch devotees in the gaming world. Gaming accessory manufacturers have created controllers that look and function exactly like fishing rods. Sega’s version for the Dream Cast is multi-functional and can be used not just as a fishing rod but also for playing tennis games. This tool uses the latest technology and all the player has to do is wave the controller around and press the necessary buttons to get the rod moving on the screen.

Caged Fight: For intense gamers who find just moving their fingers for playing a game not exciting enough, the Dream Machine created by Robert James-Herbert is truly a dream come true. This is a computer game control simulation system that comprises of a steel cage with small points. Players have to stand inside the cage and use their bodies to control the action on the screen. For example, if the player tilts, the vehicle on the screen tilts. It is compatible with every platform. This is one of the most amazing tools a gamer can possess. The only drawback is the price, which is slightly on the higher side at $1,700. But it is certainly worth it for players who look for a real-life gaming experience.

Future Shock: There are a couple of choices that take gaming a step ahead by actually allowing the player to “feel”. With the Mindwire Shock System, players will connect electrodes to their bodies and can actually feel the shocks and other feelings, depending on the performance. When using the Falcon, the player can feel the recoil from the gun. It is very important to note that these tools are meant for the strong at heart and not to be used by the weak hearted.

Gun Control: Konami has come out with a thrilling tool for first person shooters, which means games where the player is sitting behind a gun shooting at the bad people. To alleviate the boredom out of sitting there just pressing the gamepad, Konami has introduced Laser Scope, which is a controller that fits around the player’s head and has a microphone. The player can shout “fire” into it and the amazing thing about this is the small patch over the eye that gives a much better aim.

Chainsaw Massacre: Imagine using chainsaws to rip those game figures apart. It does sound gross and monstrous, but for gamers, this can be an adrenalin pumping experience. One of the best controllers that brings this feeling as close to reality as possible is NubyTech’s resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Controller. It produces a hair-raising rumble that sounds like a real chainsaw.

Think Tank: This one is in the idea stage currently and has not taken shape yet. However, the idea itself is so wonderful and futuristic that it needs a mention, and it is certain to have gamers waiting for its release. Emotiv System has come up with an idea of creating a wireless headset equipped with sensors that detect the thoughts of a gamer and the game is played based on those thoughts. How much better can it get?

Think of Force Dynamics’ 30: This is a massive game controlling system that comes complete with an LCD projection screen, motion sensors, audio system and weighs 700 pounds. The cost is a huge $35,000. This may not be for everybody, but looking at the price tag, cannot help but wonder what sort of a gaming experience it will be.

These powerful gaming tools can change the way games are played. Innovation is the name of the game. Gaming accessory manufacturers compete with each other and everyday something new hits the market. Gamers are certainly not complaining.

Most American kids play video games, however, the center of the game market has shifted older and that is because the first generation gamers continue to play into their adulthood. Such is the magnetism of a good video game. There is a great demand for good games from all age groups and the creators of these games keep releasing improved versions of games to keep players’ excitement alive.

Here are a few of the latest releases that are considered to be some of the best and provide the excitement needed in a game:

GRID for Xbox 360

The fuel prices are scary and can deviate anyone from their roady aspirations. But a far better alternative is to burn the road and the rubber, speeding along miles of digital asphalt with GRID.

GRID is a well-made racer that outshines almost all other racers with its brilliant cinematic flair and tremendous handling mechanism. It not only manages to perfect the most basic elements of the past, but also shifts the gears of innovation to an all new high with the fantastic flashback system and scores with a superb visual presentation. It takes players to different race locations in three continents. Players compete on the most prestigious race tracks on power packed race cars, then go on to compete in competitions that are city-based, through to road races and urban street races.

There is a lengthy career mode where it is possible to earn stacks of cash and reputation points by competing in events and challenges. The basic mantra is to earn more by winning more and go deeper into the game.

All these features can be accessed online and they work perfectly. Races are fast, fiery and exhilarating. The game has a flashback system, which allows the player to literally rewind and resume action whenever possible. It saves a lot of time as there is no need to restart the game every time because of a silly mistake.

The only area it falters a bit is in the customization and fine tuning department. If we can call it that, the negative aspect is that the player cannot tweak the engines at all. Only the paint and the color pattern can be changed.

Metal Gear Solid 4 for PS3 – Guns of the patriots

For gamers, Hideo Kojima and his Metal Gear Franchise holds a special place and is in great demand. MGS4 was one of the most highly anticipated 3D games, so much so that this game was considered as the sole reason for buying Sony’s next generation console. It has been touted as the system seller even before it was released and now that it’s out, gamers say that all expectations have been exceeded and that the Snake’s last ordeal turns out to be a great gaming experience.

This is one of the most technically stunning video games ever made. Great cinematics combined with a great gameplay is what makes this game very impressive.

The Beauty and the Beast unit has a bunch of gorgeous blood-thirsty bitches and the most venomous bosses that the Snake has ever faced. Snake himself is not a middle aged warrior as he was previously, and because of the side effects of the modified DNA, has now begun to age prematurely and has to cope with stiff joints. As the story goes from one height to another, the juxtaposition of formidable bosses with Snake’s deteriorating body condition create the tension that makes this game exciting.

There have been complaints from gamers about the long duration of the cut scenes, but it looks like Kojima wanted to make sure that this game leaves a long lasting impression on the player.

Metal Gear online is fairly good and supports 16 players, but the problem with the online game is that it is region locked. It means a player will have to have two discs for the same region to be able to play online.

Ninja Gaiden II for Xbox 360

This is said to provide one of the best action experiences. Ninjas are known for their venomosity, methodical and strange fighting styles, accuracy, sense of purpose, coyness and lightning speed. Ninja Gaiden II comes with a brand new health replenishing/recharge system and the game is extremely challenging and demands a lot of practice in effective weapon usage and the true martial arts style fights.

There are several improvements in terms of better checkpoints and the player does not have to fight 100 Ninjas stashed like pigeons on the loose in a closed room every time the player dies.

Although the visual quality is not legendary compared to the standard set by the previous Ninja Gaiden games, it is still at par with the games of today.

There is no MP in Gaiden II but it comes with decent online features, such as leader boards where the player can compare the performance with others. Another good feature is the Halo like theater that allows the player to share full action game play videos or clips with friends.

Ardent players say that there are a couple of holes in the game; one is the platform issue that comprises of running, jumping along and leaping through walls. Players are said to witness a few loading problems too when doing these things. The previously present camera movement problem still exists.

Apart from these issues, Ninja Gaiden II provides a great gaming experience.

These games are some of the best that have been released recently and for those shopping for games for themselves or as a surprise for their kids, these high-excitement games can be checked out.

Who would have thought the day would come when playing a video game can prove to be harmful? Along with technological advancement, the video game culture underwent a huge change, with violence and sex making its way even into the video game arena. There are many types of video games, each with its own distinctive content. The rating for these games is done by the Entertainment System Rating Board (ESRB) to give information about the content of the games, for buyers to decide whether it is meant for children or for adults.

The ESRB uses rating symbols, such as EC (early childhood,) E (everyone,) M (Mature) and many others as well as several descriptors to describe what is in a game. Some descriptors are – animated blood that means depiction of discolored blood, which does not look real; blood depicts normal blood; violence refers to conflicts that are aggressive in nature; sexual violence depicts violent sexual acts such as rape. These are just some of the descriptors and there are many more that are used to describe comic, humor, gambling, drugs, language, mature humor etc.

Parents of small children usually look at these ratings to see what sort of games their kids are playing and keep a check on them, as well as to ensure they do not play games that are violent or sexually inclined, at a young and impressionable age.

In spite of all these measures taken by the ESRB and parents watching over them, children curiosity gets the better of them and they always manage to do exactly what they should not be doing, such as buying video games rated 18 and above. The unfortunate part is that they are able to get access to these video games at several auction sites online.

A recent investigation revealed shocking results, which show that these violent video games are being supplied to children by almost ninety percent of the shops online. This revelation of how children can get their hands on violent video games that are age-restricted has shocked the investigators.

The investigation was done by engaging volunteers between the ages of twelve and sixteen years of age, who were asked to make forty-four test purchases of video games that are rated 18+, such as video games called GTA IV and Manhunt. They had to make these purchases through postal orders on the internet. Thirty-eight of the volunteers were successful in buying these video games.

However, in spite of the danger this poses, can these sellers be blamed? Sellers explain that since they accept payment in the form of postal orders, they have no idea who they are selling to nor do they have any way of knowing what the age of the buyer could be.

There is a law in place, which says that sellers who sell adult video games to children can face a jail term of up to six months and will also be imposed a fine.

Brandon Cook, the lead officer for age restricted sales at the TSI says, “Traders selling goods over the internet have a responsibility to make sure they have methods in place to avoid breaking the law by making underage sales. If traders cannot be sure that the person they are selling to is over 18 they should not be selling.”

The TSI also mentioned that just as the sellers are to be held responsible for selling such games to children, parents have to take on the important role of monitoring what their children are up to and if the video games they are playing are for their age or not. They have to impose restrictions on children as well as keep an eye open for any inappropriate actions.

Blaming the seller will not help the children, and with so many unscrupulous elements everywhere, it becomes important for parents to take it into their own hands and be totally involved in deciding on the games their children can play. They have to be stern and suspend play if it is found that children lack self-control.

Sellers on their part have to keep in mind that playing games that are much beyond their age changes the thinking and attitude of the children and has long-lasting affect on their future. It becomes every person’s duty to act responsibly and do whatever they can in their power to ensure they find out who they are selling to and ensure that small children are not exposed to video games meant for adults.

Children often complain that their parents do not allow them to play video games as often as they would like and that they do not understand how much fun playing video games can be.

There is good news for the kids. Parents may just let them get their way if this obsession proves to be good for their health, and they themselves may start playing alongside their children.

Health researchers in the U.S., who are always searching for ways of find good in everything, are at it again and are looking at the positive influence video games might prove to be.

The Robert Wood Foundation announced that it will give about a dozen research teams, up to $200,000 each, to conduct studies for a couple of years. The aim of the projects will be to measure the effects of playing video games, on the young as well as the old.

Researchers at Cornell University will study how a game played on a mobile phone, which rewards exercise and healthy eating, will influence the behavior of children. University of Florida research team will monitor how playing Crazy Taxi with Play station II will affect the perception in the elderly. University of South Carolina will look into how video games such as EyeToy and Wii can affect people who suffered a stroke, by helping them recover their motor skills.

The idea behind conducting these various studies is the feeling that video games have the potential to teach through reinforcement. Researchers wish to encourage healthy behaviors from obsessions such as video games.

They say that video games become either good or bad based on the perception of the person playing. According to Debra Lieberman who oversees the health game research at the University of California at Santa Barbara, “A good game, or a game where you could actually learn some skills or develop some self-confidence could displace some of the more time-wasting video games that are out there. That could be a win-win in many ways.”

Video games are usually seen as the birth-right of the younger generation but this research will also look into how they can help the elderly, in overcoming the problems they have. The research team at the Union College in New York will look into how participation in a virtual cycling team will affect the exercise behaviors and health of people who are aged 50 and above.

The best part about video games is that they are goal oriented and players are challenged to reach that goal. This encourages people to understand goal setting and ensuring they reach their goals in life. This is what makes video games addictive.

The advantages of playing video games are believed to be numerous; they improve hand-eye coordination, fast paced games may improve people’s eyesight, improve self-esteem, provide mental stimulation, can be enjoyable social interaction and educational games can be a fun way to learn. What parents can do is let the children enjoy their video games as long as they are not playing any violent games.

Pong was terrific. It was the start of a concept that has since developed into one of the largest and most profitable segments of the entertainment industry. Arcade style video games quickly transitioned to computer games, and then of course went on to console games. While each style of game (arcade, computer, and console) has its respective fans, only one style of game can be accessed from anywhere, anytime and be updated almost instantly – the internet game.

Evolution of the Internet Game

Original computer games required discs to play. Important missions were interrupted as you switched out floppy disks and waited for it to reload. As computers got faster and data storage improved, games improved as well. Floppy discs gave way to CD-ROMs and then with the advent of the internet, games went online.

Fast and Furious

The internet gaming sector grew fast and furiously. Competition was and is still intense. Players bore easily and new, more complicated, versions of games are released frequently. Gaming sites offer a large variety of games with every conceivable style of entertainment available. Older arcade games can now be found online as well as the MMPORGs that have become the favorites of today.

Today’s Internet Games

The games of today are varied online. Games range from girls dress up games to the huge multi-player games that span the globe. Combat games are side by side with golf games. Children’s games can be found as easily as adult games. When online users are ready for a break or a chance to test their luck, they can log in and play gambling or casino style games. While many of the games are free for use, others require a subscription. Regardless of game style, there is quite literally, a game for everyone.
