Aug 15 India's Independence Day

The Fifteenth of August is remembered the world over as a day of momentous celebration, for it is India Independence Day, a national holiday commemorating release from British rule in 1947. The national flag of India is raised to its highest height on both private and public buildings government offices and many business are closed so workers can participate in the celebrations and festivities. Traditionally, the President gives his inspiration speech to the people from the Red Fort in old Delhi.

Music festivals featuring local talent as well as prominent Indian musicians, patriotic movies starring India's finest and made in Bollywood, and kite flying competitions are some of the activities Indians participate in during India Independence Day celebrations. One such long-standing music festival is Freedom Jam.
