Aug 14 Pakistan Independence Day

An Islamic nation, Pakistan came into existence at midnight on 15 August 1947 but celebrates its nationhood on Pakistan Independence Day, 14 August. In the Islamic calendar, the day of independence coincided with Ramadan 27, the eve of which is sacred to Muslims. Pakistan was one of two new countries created by the partitioning of British India by the United Kingdom. Celebrations on Pakistan Independence Day honors the many leaders, freedom fighters and religious activists who played key roles in helping secure its nationhood.

Pakastanis take part in celebratory festivals, speeches, flag raisings, patriotic songs and marketplace events. In other countries, Pakastanis also carry the banner of independence. For example in the U.S., there are huge Independence Day events like PakDAYLA and the Annual Pakistan Festival USA.
