Since 1991, India celebrates Doctors Day holiday on the first day of July to honor renown physician Bihan Chandra Roy, who was born on July 1, 1882 and died on July 1, 1962. Their regard for Dr. Roy is extended to all doctors in the nation in order to commemorate the loving care given to communities by physicians across all the medical disciplines.

Around the world, other countries have a similarly named holiday -- for example, National Doctor's Day -- that is celebrated for the same reason albeit on different days. In the United States of America, March 30 is designated as "National Doctor's Day" in honor of Dr. Charles B. Almond. Cubans celebrate "Doctors Day" on December 3 to mark the contributions of physician/scientist Carlos Juan Finlay in his work on yellow fever.
