Nemo Design is a brand design agency and creative workshop headquartered in Portland, Oregon, founded in 1999 by Jeff Bartel, snowboarding photographer Trevor Graves, and Chris Hotz, three partners who worked together in the marketing department of Morrow Snowboards before starting their own agency after Morrow's acquisition by K2 Skis. The trio named the company Nemo, meaning "no one" in Latin, because they wanted a more collective culture and thought using their surnames would give the unwanted impression of a law firm. Trevor Graves discovered his talent for photography in the snowboarding community during the 1980s, sharing the excitement of the sport globally for 15 years before helping Nike break into mainstream action sports with its Nike 6.0 brand, while co-founder Jeff Bartel's design talent helped revitalize the Smith Optics brand. Nemo Design's curiosity and desire to create has pushed the agency to bridge the gap between print, product graphics, consulting, packaging, motion graphics, photography and web design, specializing in strategy-driven design for active lifestyle and outdoor culture brands.
