Udall Shumway PLC is a full-service law firm headquartered in Mesa, Arizona, started in 1965 with an alliance between two law school friends. As the story goes, Dale Shumway and David Udall agreed to flip a coin to determine the name and location of the new partnership, and Udall won both tosses, establishing the Law Offices of Udall and Shumway in the City of Mesa. The firm's first office was located above a drug store on the second floor of 41 East Main Street in Mesa, before growing enough by 1968 to require more staff and space. Dennis Blackhurst joined as a partner in that period, followed by Robert Bentley in 1971 to handle business and estate planning, and John Lyons in 1973 focused on insurance defense and general litigation. The firm reached 20 attorneys by 1990, and both founders became Of-Counsel in 2000 while remaining involved in the practice. Today, Udall Shumway provides personalized legal services meeting clients' personal, family, business and corporate needs, maintaining an AV Martindale Hubbell rating for many years. As a mid-sized firm, Udall Shumway is large enough to offer full diversity of service and expertise while remaining small enough to maintain personal contact with clients across personal injury, commercial litigation, family law, estate and tax planning, school law, criminal law, bankruptcy, immigration and real estate transactions.
