Yahoo Directory

Yahoo is considered as one of the most recognized and one of the most happening cyber portals today. It started as a subject specific directory and even at the moment contains some really significant content in its directory. This content in the yahoo directory can be searched for directly or browsed according to the categories listed in the directory itself.

The moment you open the URL that leads to the Yahoo directory, you are exposed to all the yahoo content followed by a herd of sponsored links or rightly called as advertisements and then the rest of the results “tagged” as the web results coming directly from the database of Google.

Yahoo directory comprises of a lot of databases right from the sponsored links which are mostly the ads from overture to Google for web search and images. It also inculcates the yellow pages. This can be characterized as one of the strengths of the yahoo directory. Besides being a strong database, Yahoo is rightly identified as one of the extremely popular directories for the reason that it generates enormous traffic and in turn generates a great return on investment. The advertisements prove to be helpful because of the varied products and service links it contains. Apart from being user-friendly, it is a great resource to any web master in order to generate revenues.

Undoubtedly, Yahoo is the most popular directory but it is pretty deficient in a number of places. To start with, yahoo directory being this huge contains some of the content that needs an update. The constant revamping of the content does not happen when it comes to directories as large as these. Secondly, a lot of emphasis is given on the advertisements; it might be useful in a lot of cases for a web master but can become highly annoying for users at times. And lastly when a user stumbles on the yahoo directory, an effort is made to keep the user restricted to using the yahoo resources only which could be inappropriate most of the times.

I just submited one of my sites to the Yahoo Directory. I am curious to see if it makes any difference for SEO purposes. I’ve spent a lot of time documenting my rankings to see exactly what happens after the submission.
