After an early stint at CERFnet in the early 1990s, Powell founded Powell Internet Consulting, later renamed PINT, and has since become well known in the academic community both regionally and internationally, founding the UCSD Extension Web Publishing program in the late 1990s and continuing to teach classes in web development and design there as well as in UCSD's Computer Science Department. Powell is the author of eleven best-selling industry textbooks on HTML and web design, including Web Design: The Complete Reference and HTML: The Complete Reference. PINT has helped over 500 organizations complete thousands of projects, with work ranging in scope from multi-year digital transformations for Fortune 500 companies to hourly consulting engagements for startups.
