www.dmoz.com is abbreviated as DMOZ, which in turn is also called the Open Directory Project (ODP). DMOZ is a huge, classified directory of thousands of web pages and it consists of voluntary employees. Getting listed in this popular directory is free; however, each website or a web page that is added into this directory is manually examined prior to being inculcated.
As far as the popularity is concerned, DMOZ can be given an average stand as not many people hit across this directory as much as they land on Yahoo and therefore this directory has a little value in itself when it comes to generating traffic. But at the same time, the data in this directory can be easily downloaded and no matter how small a website is, it can still make use of it. It can be said that Google Directory is analogous to a downloaded DMOZ directory.
There are some important aspects attached to submitting a site with DMOZ. Hi, I understand that DMOZ listing is a good start up to gain link pop. But its seems confusing as i have tried to register my web site but all i get a is look which reverts me back to the home page.. can someone suggest how i can submit my site?
I have tried to submit at least 1000 times but there is NO ANSWER about my submission.

Agreed that DMOZ is a nice listing to have because it is free and for the reasons you note. On the flip side it is also an extremely frustrating process to get listed there.
