Butzel Long, P.C. is a law firm headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, founded in 1854 by William Austin Moore, whose admiralty law practice was called to Buffalo, Cleveland, Milwaukee and Chicago to handle some of the era's most important maritime cases. The firm began during Detroit's Great Lakes shipping trade era and is named for Leo Butzel, who joined in 1896, and Thomas Long, who joined in 1909 and worked on the General Motors restructuring, trying the only litigation matter that arose from the entire reorganization. Today Butzel Long employs approximately 155 to 200 attorneys and staff across offices in Michigan, New York and Washington D.C., serving more than 8,000 geographically diverse clients active in national and international markets.
